Sean Penn is the perfect altruist: compassionate, caring, selfless and charitable. What’s not to like? He’s also a two-time Academy award winner, screenwriter, director and – wait for it – politician. It’s almost too good to be true. Let’s burst the bubble shall we?
In the summer of 1987, Madonna went to Cedars Sinai hospital for an X-Ray after her husband attacked her with a baseball bat. She did not file an official complaint, because said husband was about to serve a 60-day jail term for assaulting a film extra. One year later, Madonna’s husband “bound her to a chair with heavy twine” and abused her for nine hours. He eventually untied her “after she agreed to perform a degrading sex act on him”. She fled the house and “staggered” into the sheriff’s office – Lieutenant Bill McSweeny hardly recognised her as Madonna.
Sean Penn was Madonna’s husband.
He married Robin Wright Penn in 1996, but their tumultous, on/off relationship came to an end in 2010. In June of 2014, Penn started dating Charlize Theron, who is also a victim of domestic abuse. Theron was sixteen when her mother, Gerda Theron, shot and killed her abusive father, but “the shooting was legally adjudged to have been self-defense and her mother faced no charges.”
The couple are currently in South Africa working on the film, “The Last Face”. Theron is South Africa’s pride and joy. I remember reading about her in an Afrikaans magazine many years ago. It was before she was famous, when she was still known as “Suid-Afrika se Hollywood meisie” (South Africa’s Hollywood girl).
Karma ran its course, Theron won an Oscar and the rest is history. Unfortunately history is never laid to rest. History has a knack for turning the present into the past and vice versa. The cycle repeats itself ad infinitum, much like the Kardashians.
“People change! Give the guy a break, will you? He LOVES Charlize! You idiot!”
Bruce Jenner never changed: he still looks like a 21-year-old babyman. Mickey Rourke never changed: he still looks like a sad villain. William Shatner never changed: he still looks like a planet. Ryan O’ Neal never changed: he still looks likean alcoholic. John Travolta never changed: he still looks like a baby with a cleft chin. Nick Nolte never changed: he still looks like Gary Busey’s long-lost twin. Jon Voight never changed: he still looks like a weeping stripper. Ben Kingsley never changed: he still looks like a bald pimple.
A leopard never changes its beautiful spots.
