Robin Thicke's lawyer believes the singer is being 'exploited' following shocking 'Vicodin and alcohol' revelation

Singer Robin Thicke's lawyer believes the singer is being "exploited" following his shocking alcohol and drug revelations.

The 37-year-old star is reported as saying in a deposition that he was "high on Vicodin and alcohol" when recording hit track Blurred Lines with Pharrell Williams and his attorney claims they have been leaked to distract from the "weak" legal claim.

Robin is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with Marvin Gaye's children, who have accuse the hunk, Pharrell Williams and Clifford 'T.I.' Harris Jr. of copying their late father's hit 'Got to Give it Up.'

The lawyer, Howard King, said in a statement: "Robin's moment of personal vulnerability is being exploited in the hope of diverting attention from the obvious weakness of their legal claim."

In the deposition  obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Robin admitted that he lied about writing the catchy track with Pharrell, 41, because he was too drugged up and drunk at the time.

Speaking under oath, when asked where he was when the track was created, he said: "To be honest, that's the only part where -- I was high on Vicodin and alcohol when I showed up at the studio.

"So my recollection is when we made the song, I thought I wanted -- I-- I wanted to be more involved than I actually was by the time, nine months later, it became a huge hit and I wanted credit.

"So I started kind of convincing myself that I was a little more part of it than I was and I -- because I didn't want him -- I wanted some credit for this big hit.

The couple split after nine years of marriage

"But the reality is, is that Pharrell had the beat and he wrote almost every single part of the song."

The star also admitted that his drug and alcohol abuse had caused the breakdown of his marriage with Paula Patton, whom he married in 2005, earlier this year.

He said: "I told my wife the truth. That's why she left me."
His hit single was a bit of a blur it seems

It was widely considered that his nine-year marriage broke down due to infidelities on his part.

However he strongly denied it, previously saying: "[Cheating] is not why we're apart. We're apart because we just couldn't be together anymore for a while. There's a hundred different reasons, there isn't just one. There's a long list… I changed, and I got a little too selfish, a little too greedy and little too full of myself."

Since splitting from his childhood sweetheart Robin has made numerous efforts to win her back - including dedicating his most recent album, which was called Paula, to her.
