There was a rumor going around earlier this year that Eli Roth's bloody horror film Cabin Fever, which is only 12 years old, was going to get the remake treatment.
Now that's been confirmed by Armory Films, Cassian Elwes and Contend, who have all announced their production of the horror thriller has officially begun principal photography with Gage Golightly ("Teen Wolf"), Dustin Ingram (Paranormal Activity 3), Samuel Davis ("From Dusk Till Dawn"), Matthew Daddario (Delivery Man) and Nadine Crocker (Deadgirl) starring in the film. Travis Zariwny (Intruder) will be directing the film this time, and in a strange twist, he'll actually be working from the exact same script that Eli Roth and Randy Pearlstein wrote for the original film. So when we say this is a remake of the original film, we mean it literally. Roth says, "Travis had an amazing vision for my original script, and as a scary movie fan I really wanted to see it. I almost see this like re-staging a play, and I'm excited to see what ideas Travis and the cast bring to it."
For those who haven't seen the original Cabin Fever, the story follows a group of college students who rent a cabin in the woods to do some partying, but begin to fall victim to a flesh-eating virus and all hell breaks loose. This doesn't seem remotely necessary, but at the very least, it'll be an interesting experiment. There's a part of me that has wondered from time to time what a different director would have done with a script that was already turned into a film by another filmmaker. However, Cabin Fever is hardly one of the films that has come to my mind in that thought process. Anyone interested?
