The female passenger was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital with burn injuries after the balloon crashed in a field adjacent to the B573 near the village of Earls Barton at around 7.30 am, Northamptonshire Police have confirmed.

One eye witness said on Facebook that he saw the balloon hit power cables. Steve Tee said: "The balloon seemed to struggle to gain the altitude. The balloon basket hit the power lines causing it to burst into flames. "The balloon to rapidly deflate and plummet. I hope all involved are going to be ok." The investigation has now been handed over to the Air Accident Investigation Bureau. A Bureau spokesman said: "We have been notified about the incident and will be making enquiries." In January, two 20 year-olds had a lucky escape when their balloon crashed in Bangor, Wales.
